Everything you need to know about your life at LLIS

Dear student, we are delighted to welcome you to LLIS. Whether you're joining us for the first time or returning for a new school year, we want you to feel at home here. LLIS is a place built on mutual respect, curiosity, and a shared commitment to learning - our community brings together students from many different backgrounds, and that diversity is one of our greatest strengths.

Our values

Care, Create, Connect

Everything we do at LLIS - from how lessons run to how we treat each other - is guided by three values. You'll see these words throughout this site, especially in Behaviour Guide.

Care

We look after ourselves, each other, and our school environment. We treat every person with respect and kindness.

Create

We are curious, take ownership of our learning, and contribute positively to school life.

Connect

We build respectful relationships and treat everyone - students, teachers and staff - as part of our community.

Schedule

School Holidays

School hasn't even properly started and we're already talking about holidays - fair enough. Here's the full overview of when you'll be off this year, including a few important dates for S7 students. Worth saving in your calendar now.

School holiday calendar 2026/27
DatesHoliday
31.10. – 08.11. All Saints' Holidays
A well-earned autumn break - enjoy the crisp air, sleep in, and come back refreshed.
19.12. – 03.01. Christmas Holidays
Two whole weeks over Christmas and New Year - celebrate, recharge, and welcome 2027 properly.
30.01. - 07.02. Carnival Break
Students only - except S7 & 1re students preparing for the Prebac, who stay on for exams. Everyone else: make the most of it.
06.02. – 14.02. Carnival Break - All
This one's for everyone - students and teachers alike. The school is fully closed.
27.03. – 11.04. Easter Holidays
Almost two weeks off in spring - a proper breather before the final stretch of the school year.
24.05. – 28.05. S7 - Bac Preparation Week
S7 students only. Because the Bac written exams fall right in the middle of the Pentecost holidays, S7 gets this dedicated week beforehand to prepare. Think of it as your final launchpad - make it count.
29.05. – 06.06. Pentecost Holidays
A well-deserved break just before the finish line. S7 students: your Bac written exams take place during this period - this is go-time.
09.07. Last Day of Secondary School
The official last day of the school year for secondary students. Mark it in your calendar.

Good to know

These are the official school holiday periods and key dates for 2026/27. Public holidays (such as national or bank holidays) are separate and will show up on your WebUntis timetable. If a holiday falls mid-week, always check WebUntis for the exact first and last days of school.

Attendance

Be On Time

Lessons start the moment the first bell goes. Being on time is a sign of respect for your teacher and your classmates - and repeated lateness has consequences. Here's what you need to know.

  • You must be present when the lesson begins. Arriving late disrupts the class and is disrespectful to your teacher and classmates.
  • At the first bell (07:55), go directly to your classroom and wait quietly at the front for your teacher.
  • If the teacher has not arrived after 10 minutes, the class representative should inform the student secretariat.
  • Repeated, unjustified lateness will be recorded as an unexcused absence (see Absences & Illness).
  • If you are late due to a public transport delay, report to the teacher and mention the bus line affected. If this is recurring, please inform your class teacher.

Good to know

Punctuality issues are usually easy to sort out - a quick word with your class teacher or the secretariat goes a long way. If transport delays keep happening, inform your subject teacher and class teacher.

Attendance

Absences & Illness

Missing a day happens - what matters is how it's handled. A quick note from your parents usually sorts everything out. Here's the process so nothing gets recorded against you unfairly.

If You Are Ill

  • If you feel unwell during the school day, tell your teacher and go directly to the student secretariat. Do not simply leave.
  • If you are absent, your parents should let the school know on the same day ("absence signalée").
  • Within 3 calendar days of your return, your parents must give your class teacher a written excuse ("absence excusée"). Only your class teacher can mark an absence as excused - without this, it stays "unexcused".
  • From the 3rd consecutive day of illness, a medical certificate is required.

Planning an Absence in Advance

  • If you know you'll be away (e.g. a family event, a sports competition), ask your class teacher for permission in writing at least 3 days before (1 day for a single-day absence). For longer absences, or ones next to school holidays, the Headmaster must approve it.
  • Medical and dental appointments should be booked outside school hours wherever possible.
  • Driving test: special leave can be granted. This does not apply to practical driving lessons or training at the Centre de Formation pour Conducteurs in Colmar-Berg - those remain normal school days.
  • Religious holidays (e.g. Eid al-Fitr, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, and others after checking with school management): your absence will be accepted, but you are responsible for catching up on anything you miss.

Medical Certificates

  • From the 4th consecutive school day of absence, a medical certificate is required. A written excuse from your parents alone is not enough after day 3.
  • Your class teacher or the school director may also request a medical certificate for any absence if they consider it necessary.
  • If you are in S4–S7 and absent on the day of a scheduled B-test, a medical certificate is always required - no exceptions.
  • If you miss your catch-up test without a medical certificate, the test may be counted as failed.

Good to know

Try to book medical and dental appointments outside school hours where possible. In exceptional cases, your class teacher can grant an exemption - just ask in advance.

Why it matters to keep your teacher informed ⚠️

If unexcused absences keep building up over the year, the school has to take it more seriously step by step: from 20 unexcused lessons, your parents and SePAS are informed and the school sends a formal letter. If it continues (48+ for students still in compulsory education), the Ministry of Education becomes involved, and in the most serious cases (60+) the situation may be reviewed by the Disciplinary Council. See the full escalation steps for details.

The good news: this almost never happens if you simply let your class teacher know what's going on. If something is making it hard for you to get to school, talk to your class teacher, SePAS or SSE early - they're there to help, not to get you in trouble. See Contacts.

Attendance

Leaving School Grounds

Students are not permitted to leave the school during the day - but if something comes up (illness, an emergency), here's exactly what to do so everything is handled properly.

  • Students are not permitted to leave the LLIS premises during school hours without prior approval.
  • If you need to leave due to illness or a serious emergency, go directly to the student secretariat - do not leave on your own (see Absences & Illness).
  • The secretariat will contact your parents or legal guardians (required for all students under 18).
  • Any unauthorised departure will be treated as a serious violation of school rules and may result in the measures described in Behaviour Guide.
  • Students on a vocational training programme: the secretariat will also contact your employer if you need to leave early.

School & Campus

School & Campus

Beyond the classroom, there are shared rules that keep the whole campus running smoothly - from how you arrive to how you look after the space around you.

Entering & Leaving the Building

  • The main entrance is the only authorised access point for students. Do not use side gates or emergency exits except in an emergency.
  • Entry to the school is permitted from 07:00. Before lessons, wait in the main hall, cafeteria, or schoolyard.
  • Visitors are only permitted to attend lessons if they have been explicitly invited by a teacher for educational purposes.

Keeping the Campus Clean

Recycling

PET plastic bottles go in the blue bags. All other waste goes in the general bins. Please sort your rubbish correctly.

Outdoor areas

Cleanliness is expected throughout the campus - including outdoor areas and on the route to and from school.

Littering

Dropping litter anywhere on campus is not acceptable. If you see a problem, report it to the class representative or the caretaker (Loge).

Bikes, Skateboards & Similar

  • Riding bikes, scooters, skateboards, roller skates or similar items on school grounds is strictly prohibited, and these items must not be brought inside the school building.
  • Bikes must be securely locked in the designated bike park. The school does not accept responsibility for stolen or damaged bicycles.
  • Electric scooters follow the same rules as bicycles - park and lock them at the entrance.

Smoking, Vaping & Drugs - Zero Tolerance

  • Smoking and vaping (including e-cigarettes, nicotine pouches and similar products) are strictly prohibited on all school premises - inside buildings, in the playgrounds, at the sports centre, and on pathways leading to sports facilities. This is enforced by Luxembourg law (Loi du 1er septembre 2006 relative à la lutte antitabac).
  • If you are found smoking or vaping, you will be asked to stop immediately. The incident will be reported to the secretariat, your parents will be notified in writing, and a measure will be applied (see Behaviour Guide). Repeated violations lead to more severe consequences.
  • Alcohol and illegal drugs are strictly prohibited. Possession or use will result in immediate action, involvement of parents, and potential referral to authorities - see the "Immediate Risk" level in Behaviour Guide.
  • All staff members - teachers, supervisors and administrative staff - are responsible for enforcing these rules.

School & Campus

Classrooms & Toilets

Your classroom is a shared space - and a shared responsibility. Here's how to look after it, and how the toilet rules work during the day.

Classroom Behaviour & Care

Classroom behaviour expectations
ExpectationWhat this means
Wait quietlyStand at the front of the classroom and wait quietly for your teacher before the lesson begins.
Keep it cleanYou are responsible for keeping your classroom tidy. Any mess you create must be cleaned up immediately.
Water onlyYou may drink water during lessons. Food and sugary drinks are not permitted inside classrooms.
Mobile phonesPhones must be put away during lessons unless your teacher explicitly gives permission. Never take your phone to the toilet. The communal area from the Loge to the canteen, including the cafeteria, is a device-free zone (see Rules A-Z).
DecorationsYou may display items in the classroom with your teacher's permission. Everything must be removed and the room restored by the end of the school year.
Furniture & equipmentTreat school furniture and equipment with care. Report any damage to your class representative or the caretaker (Loge).

Using the Toilet

Golden Rule

Only one student out of the classroom at a time.

  • Use the toilet during breaks whenever possible - please plan ahead.
  • Leaving the classroom during a lesson is only allowed for genuine urgent need or medical reasons.

Which toilets can I use?

Toilet access by time of day
WhenWhich toilets are open
During lessonsOnly the toilets on the 1st floor
During the lunch breakOnly the toilets on the ground floor
Before school & during breaks (10:15–10:30 and 14:20–14:30)All toilets

Why this rule exists

These restrictions were introduced because of repeated misuse and vandalism, and because supervision is limited at certain times. Thanks for helping us keep the toilets clean and usable for everyone.

School & Campus

Lockers

Every student gets a locker - a secure spot to store your books and belongings during the day. A €20 deposit is required for the key, which you get back when you return it.

Good to know

Lockers are in the corridors, which are normally off-limits before 07:50 and during breaks. The exception: you're always allowed to access your own locker - just go alone, not in a group.

School & Campus

Your Student Card

Your student card is your ID, your access pass, and your payment card for the cafeteria and restaurant - you'll need it every single day, so keep it with you at all times.

  • Every student receives a student card at the start of the school year. You must carry it with you at all times while on school premises.
  • Your card may be requested at any time by management, teachers, or administrative and technical staff. This rule exists for identification and security purposes.
  • Your card also serves as a payment card for the school restaurant and cafeteria (myCard system).
  • If your card is lost or damaged, report to the secretariat to request a replacement. The first replacement is free of charge; each additional replacement costs €5.

Good to know

Lost your card? Head to the student secretariat as soon as possible to request a replacement.

School & Campus

Screens & Posters

Want to get the word out? Great. The school screens are now the main way to share information with students - replacing the posters and paper displays from last year.

Getting on the Screens

From this year, the school screens are the primary channel for student announcements. Here's how to get your content displayed:

  • Design in Canva ↗ - it's free for students and easy to use. The screens are horizontal (landscape), so set up your design that way from the start. Since screens show multiple slides, you don't need to cram everything onto one image. A simple presentation works best: Slide 1 - What? · Slide 2 - Where & When? · Slide 3 - QR code (if needed).
  • Send it to Mr Retter via email or Microsoft Teams. Depending on workload, it can take up to 2 days for your content to go live - plan ahead.
  • Content rules: it must be school-related. No advertising for external events or services. All content must be appropriate for a school environment.
  • Can't use Canva? Send an editable file (not a PDF) so that elements can be adjusted if needed. Note that this may take longer to process.

Physical Posters & Flyers

If digital screens are not an option for any reason, the following rules apply for physical posters and flyers.

  • Get written approval from school management before putting up a poster or flyer, distributing materials, or organising a sale on campus - this applies to posters, flyers, products, and fundraisers alike.
  • Once approved, posters and flyers may only be displayed in the designated noticeboard areas - not on classroom doors, walls, or windows.
  • Take your poster or flyer down once the event or sale is over.
  • For the full rules, see Announcements, Posters & Publications in Rules A-Z.

How to Set Up

Digital Tools

WiFi at School

LLIS uses eduroam - a secure global WiFi network for schools and universities. Once you're set up, you can use the same login at thousands of educational institutions worldwide.

With eduroam, you can connect to the internet in schools, universities, and research institutions around the world - using the same login credentials, without any additional setup or local registration.

How to Connect

Please note

Access to the eduroam Wi-Fi network on school grounds has been restricted to students aged 15 and above - a measure taken by the ministry based on the concept of digital maturity.

Learning
